CPI, CPIH and RPI: what's the difference?
CPI (Consumer Prices Index) is the measure the Bank of England's 2% inflation target is set against. CPIH is CPI plus owner occupiers' housing costs and council tax, and is the ONS's lead measure of inflation. RPI (Retail Prices Index) is an older measure that includes mortgage interest payments. It is no longer an accredited official statistic, but it is still used for some index-linked gilts, rail fares and student-loan interest.
