From their 21st-century labs, researchers can peer into the everyday lives, hygiene, and even the parasites that plagued the people who lived centuries ago. In one such recent venture, a team from Poland turned their attention to the Roman province of Moesia Inferior, studying the dried remains of human waste preserved in Roman toilets dating from the 2nd to 4th centuries CE.
