Working for the right employer can vastly improve one’s enjoyment of their job. Choosing the right place of work can be challenging, but to help, LinkedIn have unveiled the top ten UK workplaces in 2021.
Companies from various sectors made the top 10 list, from banking to supermarkets, accountants to broadcasters.
Barclays came out on top, finishing first in the rankings.
The financial services business has 47,700 employees in the UK and in 2020, made a concerted effort to increase the level of representation of women and ethnic minorities within the company.
Taking the silver medal is Tesco, the massive retailer which has 300,000 UK employees.
The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated growth for Tesco, especially in terms of online shopping, leading to the company creating an extra 16,000 permanent jobs.

NatWest Group comes in third place, the second banking company to make the top 10.
The pandemic has also impacted NatWest, as they look to adopt a new model whereby staff can have the flexibility to work at home or in the office.
In fourth is BT, the telecommunications company with 82,700 UK employees.
Due to their growth, BT has also promised to provide 2,500 jobs in the next round of recruitment.
PwC UK makes the list as one of three accountancy companies in the top 10, landing in fifth place.

To give the company its full name, PricewaterhouseCoopers is a Big Four accountancy firm and has pledged to allow more flexibility for their staff’s working arrangements.
Following PwC in the sixth spot is another accountancy firm, Deloitte UK.
Deloitte expanded in 2020, and currently have 20,000 employees across the nation.
Sainsbury’s is the second of two retailers to be ranked in the top 10 in seventh place.
The supermarket chain rewarded their staff with increased pay and Covid bonuses, whilst also creating 6,000 jobs last year.

EY is the final accountancy firm to make the list, clocking in at number eight.
During the difficulties of the pandemic, EY were able to minimise job losses and also place a strong focus on diversity in their recruitment.
Perhaps not as much of a household name as many in the top 10, Upwork comes in ninth.
The online freelancing platform offers an unlimited holiday policy among other employee benefits.
Rounding out the list is the BBC, the world-famous broadcaster.
They have also moved with the times, allowing staff to negotiate flexible work conditions.
