US media turns on Joe Biden as leftie outlets ‘unable to spin’ Afghanistan humiliation

A FORMER US/UK relations adviser told Express.co.uk that a large portion of Joe Biden’s media allies have turned against him as journalists are “unable to spin” what the White House is saying is happening in Afghanistan when conflicting reports arise.

Former US/UK relations adviser and Senior Fellow of the Bow Group think tank, Lee Cohen, told Express.co.uk that President Joe Biden was losing allies in the press who were once supportive of the Democrat leader. The New York Times branded Mr Biden’s infrastructure bill passing the Senate as a “win” with other outlets praising the President’s commitment to climate change when compared to previous administrations. But now, Mr Cohen claimed “only sheep” would believe the favourable coverage of Mr Biden now and noted publishers were now turning their back on the President who could not turn the Afghanistan crisis into a positive.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Cohen was asked whether the American population believes progress has been made in Afghanistan.

President Biden said during a press conference there was no need for the US to be in the middle-eastern country anymore as their mission to kill Osama Bin Laden was complete.

But Mr Cohen blasted Mr Biden and replied: “Only the sheep who believe what the Biden-coddling mainstream media feed them, though to be fair, even most of those outlets were not able to spin this catastrophe.

“Multiple reports from sources on the ground are that the White House’s depictions of orderly proceeding don’t match reality.”

Politico reported Americans in Afghanistan were being beaten by the Taliban but Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby appeared to contradict the White House when he stated: “We want free passage through [the Taliban’s] checkpoints for documented Americans.”

Mr Biden said previously: “We’ve made an agreement with the Taliban thus far, they’ve allowed them to go through, it’s in their interest for them to go through.”

Some questioned whether or not Americans were allowed to travel freely across Afghanistan.

Mr Biden made several gaffes during the early stages of the Afghanistan withdrawal where he told ABC that there had been no deaths at Kabul Aiport when the US military moved in.

At the time, the suicide bomb attack at Abbey Gate had not happened but at least 12 people were confirmed dead at the time, either dying because of a stampede or falling from planes they had held on to.

Mr Biden also suggested none of America’s allies “questioned” US credibility on Afghanistan despite many politicians and former diplomats coming out to condemn America for its withdrawal.

Sky News Australia host James Morrow suggested media allies of Mr Biden now call him “walkway Joe” due to his tendency of not answering questions after public announcements.

A YouGov poll published on September 1 found 32 percent of respondents judged Mr Biden as an “average” president.

Just 13 percent regarded him as a “good” president, and only one pinned him a “great” president.

Meanwhile, 32 percent of respondents saw him as either a “poor” or “terrible” leader of the free world.

Of the 7,214 UK adults surveyed, 21 percent opted for “don’t know”.

Mr Cohen was asked what the Afghanistan situation now means for the UK/US special relationship.

He told Express.co.uk: “In the short term, there is definitely a rightful lack of trust from Britain.

“How could there not be? I can’t recall a time when so many stood up in the Commons and the Lords to rightfully castigate an American president.

“Hopefully, the relationship will be restored when we once again have a competent American President.

“Biden’s falsehoods and miscalculations are appalling, he said our allies were free to make their own decision to stay, but Ben Wallace, the Defence Secretary, has made clear that British forces cannot feasibly stay longer without the Americans, who are running air traffic control and are in charge of security at Kabul airport.

“I ask the British people for forbearance in not casting us off completely.

“The world is more stable, secure and prosperous when our partnership is in synch.

“Biden is an aberration, he too shall pass and we shall returns to stasis, hopefully without permanent damage.”
