The former City trader, who rose to prominence after challenging the Government on Brexit in court, said she wanted to rip up the political consensus. She promised to clean up politics and push for a constitutional overhaul.

Speaking at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre this morning, she unveiled the plans for the new True and Fair Party.

Ms Miller promised her new party would champion “greater transparency, accountability, competency than existing political parties provide”.

She added: “It is time for a new approach to politics.

“I hope that many people around the country will want to join the True and Fair Party to bring real and meaningful change.”

Taking aim at Brexit she warned leaving the EU would devastate the economy in the long run.

She said: “With the Office for Budget Responsibility recently stating that Brexit – yes, I’m daring to use the word apparently banned in Whitehall – is on course to cause a five percent contraction in the size of Britain’s economy over the long-term.

“The facts are the facts. The effects are the effects.

“Irrespective of whether it is more down to Covid or to Brexit, we need strategic, competent leadership We need competent management of the public finances.”

Ms Miller justified her new party saying polling had found 66 percent of people would consider voting for a new political party.

However, just thirteen people were in attendance for the launch – five of them journalists – with empty seats making up most of the room.

The party claimed afterwards: “We made the decision not to invite supporters to our launch today to observe Covid guidelines.

“Hundreds of people were bitterly disappointed not to be able to attend in person.

“If the Prime Minister made his own common sense decisions then maybe he wouldn’t be facing this crisis.”

Ms Miller made headlines after taking the Government to court over then-Prime Minister Theresa May’s attempts to trigger Article 50 to quit the bloc without approval from the House of Commons in 2017.

She claimed that despite the referendum outcome, parliamentarians still had to give their consent to the UK leaving the EU.

While Ms Miller has always insisted her legal action was motivated by wanting to see the UK constitution properly implemented, she has been accused of taking the Government in court in a bid to block Brexit.

She also took Boris Johnson to court when she fought his decision too prorogue parliament in 2019.

The Supreme Court ruled in her favour that Mr Johnson’s advice to The Queen to suspend Parliament for five weeks was unlawful.

Boasting of her victories this morning, she said: “Whatever people may say about me – and they’ve said quite a few things over the years – I get results.”
