AMD Stock Clears Benchmark, Hits 80-Plus RS Rating After Closing On Its Archrival

On Monday the Relative Strength (RS) Rating  for AMD stock rose into a new percentile, climbing to an 81 rating, up from 75. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is the second largest microprocessor maker after chip giant Intel. Over the past couple of years though, AMD has made strides to move up on its archrival after beating Intel to smaller, more powerful circuitry designs.


The 81 RS Rating means AMD stock is in the top 19% of all stocks in terms of price performance over the past year. This is an important milestone. Market research shows that top-performing stocks often have an RS Rating above 80 as they launch their biggest climbs.

AMD Stock Tops In Its Group

Among other key ratings, AMD earns a best-possible 99 Composite Rating, a combination of five other key ratings. Tellingly, its Accumulation/Distribution Rating is A, on an A+ to E scale, pointing to strong buying of its shares by big funds.

Meanwhile, in terms of fundamentals, Advanced Micro Devices has posted two quarters of rising earnings growth. Last quarter, the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company’s EPS shot up 250% year over year. Sales have also grown at a faster clip the past two quarters. In its most recent quarter, AMD recorded a 99% jump in sales to $3.85 billion.

Others In Chip Group

Additionally, AMD stock earns the No. 1 rank among its peers in the Electronics-Semiconductor Fabless industry group. Himax Technologies (HIMX) and Monolithic Power Systems (MPWR) are also among the top-five companies in the group.
